The Filson x Sidnaw Vest is a very limited release that embodies the ideals of craftsmanship, small-scale manufacturing, and the pursuit of a vision. It’s built in Michigan by a husband-and-wife team that’s as passionate about their family and community as they are about crafting highest-quality goods. Sidnaw follows a business model of using top-grade deadstock materials when possible, minimizing their manufacturing footprint. Filson deadstock waxed-cotton fabrics were used to make this vest, the tan with our 8-oz. oil finish Cover Cloth and the Burnt Olive with 11-oz. oil finish Shelter Cloth. Both materials come from England’s famed British Millerain, pioneers in waxing fabrics for reliable weather protection. The waxing of cotton for rainwear has a history that dates back to the 15th century, with mariners coating their ships’ sails with oil to resist water saturation. In the early 1900s, the technology evolved to utilize wax rather than oils, resulting in a much more stable and durable finish. This vest’s water-resistant shell is lined with our signature Moleskin, an exceptionally soft sueded cotton from the historic Brisbane Moss in the United Kingdom. Every edge is trimmed in leather to prevent fraying, and the two-way front zipper provides versatility in ventilating. Crescent-shaped pockets are easy to access and keep contents secure.
Do not wash or dry clean – brush or wipe clean with a damp rag. Rewax as needed to maintain maximum water resistance. To prevent the transfer of oils, we recommend avoiding prolonged contact between Filson oil finish goods and light-colored fabrics, especially in warm weather.
