Our Lightweight Waxed Anorak combines the natural rain protection of waxed cotton with the simplicity of your favorite hoodie into a minimalist shell that packs small enough to take anywhere. The roots of historic anoraks trace back to the ancient arctic. These hooded pullovers were constructed from the skins of seals or caribou and were often coated with fish or whale oil for water resistance. Our anorak does away with animal skins and fish oils. Made with cotton from England’s historic British Millerain, the superlight 3.3-oz. fabric is treated with a special dry-wax finish that causes water to bead up and roll off the surface. Constructed with the same techniques developed for WWII parachute fabric, the ripstop cotton incorporates a cross-hatched pattern of strong threads into the weave to provide tear strength and prevent punctures from spreading. A quarter-length front zipper provides ventilation or wind and rain protection when zipped up to the neck, and boasts a zipper garage to prevent pinching. Within the large center-kangaroo pocket hides a zippered security pocket, which pulls double-duty as a storage pocket the entire shell can be stuffed into for easy packing. The forearms are reinforced with an additional fabric layer for added durability, and feature snap-adjustable cuffs for a custom fit. The half-length side seam zipper makes donning or removing this traditional lightweight shell a snap, and the hem and hood are drawcord-adjustable for maximum wind protection.
